East Gippsland Specialist School participates in a wide range of sporting activities including team sports, bike education, swimming and school athletics.

Primary students have the opportunity to engage in structured bike ed, swimming and Primary Club activities on a weekly basis.

Middle School students have the opportunity to participate in Middle School sports, bike riding around the local swamp, swimming and class competitive sports.

The Senior Department participates in a sports program on Friday afternoons based at the nearby Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre. The group has the use of the Centre’s many facilities including swimming lessons, recreational swimming, volleyball, boxercise, sports dance and fitness circuits in the gymnasium. The students also have the opportunity to participate in bike education and class competitive sports.

Annually, the school competes in the Basketball Vic Health Cup competition. This involves teams training and being selected to represent the school at the carnival held in Morwell each year. The school has been successful in this tournament on a number of occasions, representing Gippsland in the State Championships in Melbourne.

EGSS also participates in the Soccer Friendly Games held each year in Newborough. Again, the school has been very successful in this tournament.

The school is currently a member of The Mitchell Sports Cluster which gives the school the opportunity to participate in athletics and cross country against other local primary students.
