The Middle Department at East Gippsland Specialist School caters for students between the ages of 12 and 16 years of age.
The focus for the Middle Department is to help students develop an awareness of themselves as individuals with personal strengths and interests. The extension program gives students an opportunity to develop new interests such as movie making, photography, choir and cooking.
Students have the opportunity to particpate in specialist programs which include art, cooking and woodwork and each class is given the opportunity to access swimming lessons at the BARC with trained instructors.
The students are provided opportunities to develop leadership skills by having Department Leaders that assist with such tasks as running assemblies and greeting visitors to the school.
In line with the rest of the school, the Middle Department uses the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support matrix to teach the students self-management skills which will help them become safe and respectful learners.
A camp is run each year to give students the opportunity to learn and experience new and different activities in a fun and exciting environment.
